Mercenary 03:23
You tried to run you tried to hide stay out of sight and mind You were a lowly pauper’s son to us when you call the kettle black and take it back No restitution could erase the past that you stole catch the thief He’s just the mercenary I’d like to meet So good to see you, where should we begin? I heard you calling and we’ll never be the same I’m sure you get this one all the time An empty heart inside a chest You only get what you’ve been sold down river it’s all you told me Say, you there I’d spare a penny for your thoughts on all this rain and bloody hell Sharpen your axes Turn your lanterns homeward you commit the crime and do no time No restitution could erase the past that you stole Catch the thief He’s just the mercenary I’d like to meet Say you there I’d spare a penny for your thoughts on all this rain and bloody hell We’re all content to hold out hope but where are we supposed to go We’re all content to hold out hope but where do we go? (I’m not talking bout a Beatles song Written a hundred years before I was born)

Save your sad condolences I’m not coming home yet Wrap me in a blanket Sail me off to the sunset I hear the ocean in my brother he’s not here to enjoy this The time we spent in open water is cast ashore That seems to be the consensus Weak and hypothermic I can still feel the trade winds Drift me down the currents of one million marksmen I miss the moon and all its glory Like a deterioration A memory so far away now It’s one with the horizon (Time will turn this tide) I won’t give up (Time will turn this tide) It won’t be like it was before (Time will turn this tide) I won’t lose hope Say it’s because you want me to You and I were voyagers with no destination Doomed to run this ship aground in a perfect stasis I know it’s you A constellation in dim light with no way home you show the way and I’ll still hide Hell, I’m glad I did it There’s gonna be a change...

Arms Race 03:30
You breathe with an apparatus strapped around your chest And it tells you when to wake and go to sleep You see through tunnel vision lenses on your open eyes so you only see what you want to see It blacks out every burden at every turn and it makes life happy and grey and that smile is here to stay Stop lighting all the fuses that find their way back to you (Think for yourself) Stop yearning for the past when it wants nothing to do with you (Think for yourself) And you don’t know how to be if the carpet isn’t laid out to show the way (you toe the line never saying anything) start asking better questions like why are we so easily led astray and how do we break away And I don’t wanna regress to a sick sad state Back when I used to insist on hating everything The urge and need to belong is your own imagination’s funeral Remove the wool from over your eyes

a sullen masquerade Amends you never made You’re only skin and teeth To take the war to bed have mercy on the dead and spare you the sight of me but it sounds the same to me Once around in your second coming Words alone are indoctrinating You were ripened for the picking a glisten from your eye shattered worlds across the interstate (oh no) You were appalled and found it sickening what they did to you I never wanted it to end like this (oh no) What did you have to prove with the phases of the moon where no shadow will be safe again? It’s the essence of the world the mark of masculinity feigning illness for the medicine on your day of rest Bathed in the blood they left you undone they bathed in the blood of your purifying and left you undone

I was holding my breath Was anybody even there? A contagion to be let loose in the air Heavier than air Cortisol giving way to fast breaks that more nimble feet could make Unwrapped and distantly devised on the spot Unplanned and unruly Ring the bell and dig me up and I am not afraid to die an iocane death It’s worth its weight in gold but it’s less than shit to me And I am not afraid to die an iocane death like we do A simple to the point stitch that sutures Close a fresh wound that’s bleeding to be free Oh how little I was wanted If at all in the first place but we are still immune to this poison we are still alive by the sound but we are still in love with the torment we are still alive by the sound

Call it the sun, call it oblivion Call it a lust for gold I needed something warm to Ignite this cold in my bones We were two ships passing in the night Without a restful soul Summers always burn into ash before they go An ultraviolet light put me to bed tonight I just hope the ocean has no memory I fell asleep in the deep end All alone dreaming again Why does the summer have to end By the moonlit water’s edge I fell in love with a cigarette I started drinking alone again I don’t want the summer sun to end summer sun to end to set again where do you go when everything’s a wreck when you’ve lost control I found a comfort in all the lies I told myself I think this bottle’s been my only friend My only true console Put on a face but I don’t hide this very well

Shutters 04:14
Turn out the lights before you go I’m boarding all the windows up In this long abandoned home (Nobody lives here anymore) I’m shutting off the water and the heat Removing all the pictures from their frames and closing all the shutters now Just then you reached inside my mind and took me by surprise your last goodbye grew wings when you were just holding on too when you were just holding on brother, are you still drowning in crimson and blue? I should have been there If I had known what to do I was distant and complacent I was running from the fact that you were lonely and considered me a friend you left a portrait vague and tied to the wrist of your silhouette it walks miles down the hall your warm weather breaks the tension up when you colonize my broken bones when I won’t acknowledge all the numbers on the doors and I won’t ask you to lift or carry my coffin not for this colossal wreck and what have these dreams wrought if they don’t serve to bring you back Don’t inter my tomb in this emergency room where you took your time You were canvas in a frame and I was painting you back in to where you used to be (I could have met you) by that creek bed In the water where you swore you saw yourself Dear brother, are you still drowning in crimson and blue? I should have been there If I had known what to do I was distant and complacent I was wishing this would all just go away I was running from the fact that you were lonely and considered me a friend
